Weaving Fabric

Winter continues, lock down continues, fibre activities continue.

I’ve been doing a lot more sewing and quilting this winter and enjoying my new Baby Lock machines so when I saw ideas for weaving with fabric, I knew I had to give it a try.

Not for the faint of heart, but do-able with lots of patience and the end result is so magical. Endless cutting of strips, endless ironing of strips to make a kind of bias tape, endless weaving of strips, and an enormous amount of pins. I used one of my blocking squares as a backing during the process and that worked really well.

I used the fabric weaving for the front of a new pillow with the back done envelope style with solid blue. So fun.

I’m still in recovery from the loss of my Dusty puppy. I can finally go for a walk without crying and crying so that’s a big step. Some days are better than others. I can also start to go through the endless pictures I have of him but only so many before the tears start again.

This winter walk was from March, 2018. So many good memories. Getting there. Slowly.

  1. My heart goes out to you on the loss of Dusty. I still cry over the loss of Ajax, and he’s been gone over ten years. And now little Jake is 15 years old and showing his age. Our dogs fill a special place in our hearts.

I just found your website (via Ravelry.) Some one commented on using your yarn to knit socks, so I checked it out. I currently on a mission to knit indestructible socks. Yes, my grandmother taught me to darn socks, but darn it! They shouldn’t wear out so quickly.

I didn’t realize that Suffolk wool could be machine washed without felting! I’ll be planning an order!

I love your pillow! I’ve been sewing and quilting and everything fabric and fiber for over 60 years, and never seen anything like it. It is beautiful. Well done! Now I’m inspired to try fabric weaving as well.
